Community Assessment and Intensive Support Service (CAISS)

CAISS may work with you if you have a learning disability, live in Sheffield and if your behaviour challenges your carer and/or the services you use.  Some of the people supported by CAISS also have a mental illness.
 
The CAISS team includes nurses, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists and is lead by a Nurse Consultant.
 
Referrals to CAISS are made through the Community Learning Disability Teams.

The main roles of CAISS are
  • intensive work with a small number of people
  • high quality assessments
  • developing effective interventions by working together to understand a person’s difficulties
 
CAISS works with family carers, services and teams to help them work more effectively with people who have challenging behaviour by providing
  • staff training
  • workshops
  • advice and support
 
From June 2010 CAISS will be offering Positive Behaviour Support Clinics – these are consultation clinics’ offering advice and support for carers and staff of individuals whose behaviour is challenging. For more details about the clinics, please contact the team.
