Housing - Supported Living

Back to Housing introduction page
What is supported living?
Supported living enables you to choose who you live with, where you live and how you live.

Supported living enables you to live on your own or with others. If you do not know who you would like to share with then you can receive support to meet others who may be suitable.

If you are in supported living accommodation, we encourage you to develop your skills in household tasks, budgeting, personal care, weekly planning, and going to college or work.  You are also supported to follow leisure and social interests.

Who provides my housing and support?
Your housing is provided separately to your support so that you can change your support provider without losing your home.  You can choose to buy your own home or you may wish to share with others.

We can arrange support for you or you can have a direct payment to employ your own support staff.  Penderels Trust can offer you advice and support on how to manage direct payments and find staff. The level of support depends on your needs.  If you get high rate Disability Living Allowance you will be supported to apply to the Independent Living Fund for a contribution towards the cost of your support.

You may also be supported by the Accommodation and Development Team to apply for funding to furnish and decorate your house. This can be through the community care grant or charities.

Once your supported living home has been set up, the service is monitored and reviewed to make sure that you are provided with support that meets your needs.
