The 5th Learning Disabilities Information Action Day took place on Friday 5th September in the city centre.  This event, which happens every two years, is a celebration of the services and support available to people with learning disabilities and their families/carers throughout Sheffield.

The day was officially opened at 10am by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Jane Bird.  Despite the pouring rain, representatives from over 65 organisations turned out to set up stalls in the Peace Gardens, Fargate and Town Hall.  These stalls offered information on a range of topics from places to live and things to do, to work, money, staying healthy, speaking up and much more...

There was no let-up in the rain, but the rousing music provided by Under the Stars, Sheffield’s very own learning disability friendly nightclub, helped to keep a smile on everyone’s face.  Many people enjoyed the opportunity to display their singing talents and strut their stuff to the live DJ set.

There was also a space in the Town Hall for everyone to go and dry off from the rain and chill out, whilst enjoying the delicious cakes and refreshments provided by Crown Hill.  Video footage of the floods and dvds about experiences of self directed support were projected on a large screen for people to watch.  There was also an opportunity to tell us what you thought and how we could improve the event next time.

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped to make the event such a success and of course to everyone who came along to support it!
