Autism Strategy

The number of people diagnosed with autism is increasing.  There is a growing awareness both locally and nationally that people with complex autism require high quality support in order to achieve the principles of Valuing People.

This strategy has been developed with the aim of increasing the life opportunities of adults with autism in Sheffield.  It sets out the principles that there should be a range of provision available that can meet the needs of each individual.  This should be determined by their personal choices and needs, taking account of the individual characteristics of their autism, rather than by a diagnostic label.

To achieve this, we require well trained support staff who have a high level of knowledge about the individual they support.  Expert leadership will be required by individual staff and services in all sectors in order to achieve the objectives of the strategy.
