Workforce Development Strategy

This is the Workforce Planning and Development Strategy for Sheffield’s Learning Disabilities Partnership Board for adults with learning disabilities.  The workforce includes all people who work directly with individuals who have a learning disability and those who have more infrequent contact such as bus drivers and leisure centre workers.

The strategy describes how we plan to support and develop the learning disabilities services workforce in Sheffield so that we can fully implement “Valuing People” and the key principles within ‘Our health, Our care, Our say’, most specifically Self Directed Support and its inherent goals for citizenship.

We will identify workforce planning and development issues for all professional groups, qualified and unqualified staff, support staff and their managers in all sectors.  We will also address the developmental needs of people who work in generic services about how best they can support people with a learning disability and their carers, using their services.
