Valuing People Now

a picture of someone holding some plans
On 19 January the Secretary of State for Health launched Valuing People Now: a new three year strategy for people with learning disabilities.  It is accompanied by a Delivery Plan and the government’s further response to the Joint Committee on Human Rights Report ‘A Life Like Any Other?’.

Valuing People Now is very much in line with ‘A Good Life’ - Sheffield’s own plan for people with a learning disability and their families.  It is a strategy across many government departments, not just health and social care.  It looks at all the issues that affect how well people with a learning disability and their families can achieve their rights, independence, social inclusion and choice.

Valuing People Now has six top priorities
1.   raising public awareness of Valuing People Now
2.   Partnership Boards to be as effective as possible
3.   significant improvements in health care
4.   more housing options
5.   personalisation of services
6.   increasing employment opportunities

We’ll be making sure everyone gets information about Valuing People Now and how it will help us make things better in Sheffield.  We’re holding a big public event in Sheffield at the Town Hall on 17 April, 10am to 2pm.  We’ll be sending out more information on this soon.

We have produced a summary of Valuing People now which highlights the main themes and plans of the strategy.  To download the summary document, please go to the bottom of the page.
